In a globalized world, interning and living abroad is a critical career maker. When you complete an IES internship, you'll have the work experience, professional skills, and confidence to help you and your résumé stand out.
IES Abroad also offers study abroad programs with a part-time internship component in more than 20 cities worldwide. If you think this type of program is for you, see our program options.
• Part-time, unpaid placement during the semester
• Work hours vary by program/placement
• Required for-credit internship seminar as part of full study abroad course load
Why IES Internships?
We work with you to determine your career goals and interests and guarantee* that you’ll be matched with an appropriate internship experience in your field of interest in the city and term of your choice.
Financial Aid & Scholarships
You can apply for IES Abroad financial aid and scholarships at any point after you've started a summer internship application. Discover which aid opportunities you are eligible for and even get an estimate of the amount of aid you'll receive, all before you've finished applying for your IES Internships summer program.
Full-Time Work Hours
You'll intern for eight weeks, on average, over the summer or 12 to 14 weeks during fall or spring semester with hours that are typical of full-time work in your location, so you’ll make the most of the time in your new city.
Before you go, IES Internship Coordinators work with you to perfect your résumé, cover letter, and interview skills so you’ll put your best foot forward with potential employers. At the same time, you’ll begin the required internship seminar, which continues in person once you’re on site, to put your internship into context and prepare you for future professional opportunities after you’ve returned home.
Internship Programming Expertise
As a unit of IES Abroad, IES Internships builds on more than 65 years of study abroad and 40 years of part-time internship programming to bring you a high-quality and well-rounded experience from a trusted organization.
Cultural Overview & Events
Our predeparture advising, on-site orientation, internship seminar, language course, and cultural events will prepare you for and introduce you to the city and culture in which you’ll be interning. You’ll not only gain professional skills, but a new perspective, as well.
I thought that maybe I would be interested in this type of work, but now, I know for sure that I’m definitely interested in learning more about social media and maybe making a career out of it.

About IES Internships
IES Internships is a unit of IES Abroad, a leading not-for-profit organization that has offered high-quality study abroad programs since 1950 and part-time internships as part of those programs for more than 40 years.
In 2013, IES Internships was formed to guarantee* full-time internship placements, provide dedicated assistance with résumés and interviewing skills, and give interns the ability to network with their peers, employers, and IES Abroad and Internships alumni across the world.
IES Internships guarantees you a placement in your field of choice, as indicated on your internship application. If we are unable to offer you an internship placement in the expressed field of choice at least two weeks before the program start date, despite your participation in the process and satisfaction of all program requirements, then you have the option to receive a refund of the full amount that you paid IES Internships or the chance to transfer to an IES Abroad program of comparable length and value in the same location (subject to satisfying applicable visa requirements and IES Internships’ academic program requirements).
