How It Works

Ready to create your Study Abroad by Design ® program? From your campus to our overseas Centers and partners, we’re here for each step of the planning process…or whenever you want our expertise.

Consult

Initial Consultation: Discuss your program location preferences, academic requirements, and additional components with a Customized Programs Manager. Call us at 800.995.2300 or fill out an interest form below.

Create

Proposal Process: We’ll share a proposal outlining your ideal program, featuring academic, logistical, and policy information, for your review.

Collaborate

Program Management: Once the proposal is approved, we assist with student recruitment, predeparture preparation, and correspond between your institution and IES Abroad staff on site.

Coordinate

On-Site Program Coordination: Upon arrival to your program location, local IES Abroad Center staff will manage the details of your program and serve as an intercultural facilitator.

Communicate

Post-Program Follow-Up: Our support doesn’t end when the program does – we distribute and share results from student evaluations, send grade reports, and provide suggestions for re-entry workshops and activities.

Hear How It Works

IES Abroad's Senior Associate Vice President for Customized Programs and Internships, Keith Dipple, Ph.D., breaks down the basics of customized and faculty-led programming on the Study Abroadcast podcast with Chris Carlton, of Study Abroad Smarter, a site that seeks to answer frequently asked questions about study abroad for intersted students.
