What is an Argentine Student Visa?
A student visa for Argentina is a legal document adhered to one of the inside pages of your passport. The visa serves as approval from the Argentine government for you to legally remain in Argentina for the duration of your study abroad program. The Argentine student visa is a type of "long-stay" visa, meaning you plan to be in Argentina for more than 90 days.
Do You Need a Visa for Argentina?
Depending on your IES Abroad program and citizenship, you may need a student visa to study abroad in Argentina. We’ve outlined citizenship options below to help you learn more about your requirements for legal entry and stay in Argentina.

If you are a U.S. citizen...
You will need to apply for a student visa before departing for your program. The first step to applying for your visa will be determing at which consulate you can apply. We encourage you to begin gathering your application materials as soon as possible after being accepted to your program. After receiving the required IES Abroad visa letters from us (approximately two months before your program start date), you can submit your completed application to the consulate that serves your jurisdiction. The entire process from collecting your application materials to receiving a visa may take several months. If you have questions, please contact your IES Abroad Advisor.
If you are a studying for a summer or on the Multi-Location Emerging Economies Program, you will not need to get a visa.
If you are a non-U.S. citizen...

Applying for a Visa for Argentina
Once you are accepted to your semester or year-long IES Abroad program, you will find detailed instructions to apply for an Argentine student visa in your myIESabroad account. For now, read below to get an idea of what the process will look like.
If you are a non-U.S. citizen, refer to the visa information in your myIESabroad account to determine whether or not you need a visa and what the process will be to apply. Contact your IES Abroad Advisor with further questions.

HOW
In order to apply for an Argentine student visa, you must have a valid passport. You will make an appointment at the Argentine consulate that serves your jurisdiction.
At your appointment, you will submit your valid passport along with specific supplemental materials. Details about these materials will be come available once you are submitted to your program. All consulates will require you to apply one of two ways: (1) Make an interview appointment, where you will complete your interview and submit your complete application, or (2) Send in or drop off your complete application to the consulate before they will give you an interview appointment date.
You must first contact your consulate to determine which way you will be required to apply. Details about your specific application requirements will become available once you are admitted to your program and your contact your consulate.

WHEN
You may be able to apply for your Argentine student visa as early as 90 days prior to your program start date. That is to say, your consulate appointment must fall within a 90-day window prior to the beginning of your program. Not all consulates will allow you to apply this early.
If you are an academic year student, you will need to start your FBI background check process even earlier. We recommend requesting the FBI Backgroun check around four months before your program start date.

WHERE
There are 7 Argentine consulate locations in the U.S: Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, and Washington D.C. Which consulate you can apply to is determined by your home and/or school address.
Each consulate has specific instructions on applying for an Argentine student visa that may differ from other Argentine consulates. This means that your visa application requirements may differ from another student's requirements if they are applying to a different consulate. When checking the application requirements for your student visa for Argentina, always refer to your consulate's website.

COST
The fee for applying for a student visa is USD$150 that will be paid directly to the consulate that serves your jurisdiction. Additionally, some consulates will allow you to expedite your visa for an extra USD$40. Not all consulates will allow you to expedite your visa.
The aforementioned fees may change due to inflation.
