IES Abroad is a leading not-for-profit academic consortium of 270 top-tier American Colleges and universities, with more than 240 additional partner universities worldwide. IES Abroad provides premier study abroad and internship programs around the world through IES Abroad, IES Internships, IES Abroad Customized & Faculty-Led Programs, and The Study Abroad Foundation. 

With more than 400 study abroad programs in 85 global locations worldwide, the organization creates authentic global education opportunities for more than 10,000 students annually. IES Abroad has more than 140,000 alumni who have benefited from studying on IES Abroad programs since its inception 

We educate students to be global leaders through experiential learning opportunities that meet the highest standards of academic excellence. Integral in fulfilling our mission is a commitment to the representation and integration of diverse perspectives, cultures, and ideas—from accessibility and inclusiveness of a diverse student body to the learning environment and courses offered. And we make study abroad a reality through our scholarship & aid opportunities.

MAP for Student Health, Safety & Crisis Management

Published in October 2013, the IES Abroad MAP for Student Health, Safety & Crisis Management offers a detailed set of guidelines for addressing student safety and crisis management in study abroad programs. It is the third publication in IES Abroad's Model Assessment Practice series.

Career Benefits of Study Abroad

From a ground-breaking 50-year longitudinal study (2002) to a timely study of economic recession/post-recession outcomes (2012), IES Abroad has a rich history of leading the field of international education in quantitative research on the practical outcomes of studying abroad.

Initiative to Diversify Education Abroad

In 2008, we launched our Initiative to Diversify Education Abroad (IDEA) to creatively address the relatively low participation of underrepresented students in study abroad. Since launching the Initiative, we have increased enrollment of ethnically-diverse students across all our platforms by 77%.

In 2014, we launched our Study Abroad Film Festival (the first in the industry of its kind!), which asks students to capture the spirit of study abroad—both what it meant to them, and how it redefined their world. Their work continues to be recognized by the media, and has received multiple prestigious awards.
