Correspondent Program

You are here

Share your one-of-a-kind study abroad or internship experience as a Correspondent, and document your adventures through:

Whether it's the "Top 10 Places to Visit in Madrid" or "Why I Never Want to Leave Shanghai", share your daily adventures, personal reflections, or advice to other study abroad students as a Writing Correspondent.

Share your experiences in photo posts as a front-facing Photo Correspondent, or collaborate with our Chicago-based design team as a behind-the-scenes Photo Correspondent and provide photos for our website and catalogs.

Keep your camera rolling as a Video Correspondent to capture your study abroad experience, and share video posts on our YouTube channel. Help people back home and around the world see what you see every day.

Do you express yourself best through spoken word? Want to interview your host family on a podcast? Looking to describe your travels through music? Whatever your form of creative expression, we want to hear from you as a Creative Correspondent.

You're already posting about your adventures on social media, so why not get paid for it? Document your experience as a Social Media Correspondent through engaging Instagram posts on your profile and collaborations with our social media team.

Whether you’re looking to publicly blog about your adventure in the mediums listed above or correspond behind-the-scenes with a photography mentor, you’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Document your study abroad or internship experience
  • Gain experience and exposure in your chosen medium(s): writing, photography, videography, social media, or other creative outlet
  • Build your résumé and LinkedIn profile
  • Earn money for successfully meeting the requirements

Correspondents are selected from a highly competitive applicant pool for meeting the following criteria:

  • Writing, photo, video, or creative talent
  • Engaging Instagram presence (for Social Media Correspondents)
  • Interesting and honest voice/creative eye
  • Accountability in meeting Correspondent requirements
  • Eagerness to share the IES Abroad student experience

  • Students are paid at the end of their programs after successfully meeting the requirements
  • Semester students receive $200, summer students receive $100
  • Students who double as a Social Media Correspondent and at least one other type can earn more: $250 for semester, $125 for summer

The Correspondent application is now closed. We will start accept applications for students studying abroad in the fall at the end of June, so stay tuned!
