Receive a rapid response for need-based aid
We'll send an email within five business days detailing how much, if any, need-based aid you will receive as well as a list of any scholarships you will be considered for. Various eligibility criteria apply.

Hear back from us about scholarships
Approximately six weeks after the scholarship and aid deadline, we'll notify you of any scholarships you've been awarded.
The fine print: We work really hard every day to get additional funding because we know our students—like you!—need it. That said, there’s still room for us to grow. Currently, scholarship and aid priority is given to study abroad students in the United States who demonstrate high financial need and are Pell Grant recipients. Many of our current scholarships and aid are allocated to students from Consortium Member and Associate Member schools that transfer financial aid. Students participating on Customized & Faculty-Led Programs or full-time semester internships are not eligible to receive IES Abroad scholarships and aid. Other eligibility requirements may apply. Check out our Additional Resources for funding options available to any student.
When deciding on the program that’s right for you, we recommend talking to your on-campus financial aid office to get a full picture of your school's available financial aid, IES Abroad scholarships and aid, and additional outside funding. If you have more questions, your IES Abroad Representative is happy to help!
*Supplementary documents and/or application materials are required for the University of Auckland scholarships, University of Canterbury scholarships, and some IES Abroad Grants. See details of these scholarships and grants for more information.
Even before you're admitted to your program, you can apply for need-based aid. Within five business days, we'll let you know how much aid you can plan on receiving from us to help inform your study abroad or internship decision. Funds are limited, apply early! Eligibility criteria apply.
Learn about available scholarships based on your study abroad location, major, interests, diverse background, home university, and more. Additional scholarships are available to any eligible IES Abroad student.
IES Abroad Grants are available to eligible students and do not require a scholarship and aid application. Learn more about our Public University Grant, Boren & Gilman Scholarship Support Grant, HBCU Tuition & Travel Grant and Disability Grants.

Save up to 20% on tuition when you add a consecutive study abroad or internship term (semester, summer, or January term) to your global experience.
The IES Abroad Scholarship was a major factor in my decision to study abroad; without it, I wouldn’t have been able to. In a sense, I see my scholarship as a step to a doorway, and the other side of that is the world that is full of possibilities.

Special Discounts
Automatic Discounts for Multiple/Consecutive Terms Abroad
Studying abroad can be an incredible life-changing experience, so we get it if you want to stay longer. Add an additional semester abroad and receive 20% off tuition for your second term. Looking to add a summer or J-Term program? You'll get a discount credited to your tuition as well.
How It Works
- If you're already abroad on a semester-long program:
- Contact your home school to receive permission to enroll in a second term.
- Ask your current Center Director for a “Change of Status” form to continue studying at your current location or to attend a different IES Abroad program.
- If you're planning an academic year abroad:
- Academic year program tuition prices reflect at least a 20% discount off second consecutive semester program tuition for the same program.
- You will receive a 20% discount applied as a credit to the second consecutive semester’s tuition in a different program comprising an academic year.
- You must enroll by November 1st to get the discount for academic year study. After November 1st, the second term’s tuition pricing will be based on the following spring term’s tuition.
- If you're planning a calendar year abroad:
- You will receive a 20% discount applied as a credit to the second consecutive semester’s tuition in the same or a different program comprising a calendar year.
- You must enroll by May 1st to get the discount for calendar year study. After May 1st, the second term’s tuition pricing will be based on the following fall term’s tuition.
- If you want to add a summer or January term:
- You will receive a $500 credit toward summer tuition if a summer program is attended prior to or after a semester or academic year program.
- You will receive a $300 credit toward January term tuition if a January term program is attended prior to or after a semester program.
For All Special Discounts: The calendar year, summer and January term discounts will be applied to the IES Abroad invoice as billed to the student or school.
Please note that the above discounts are applied to the designated term or second semester of tuition only.
