Daily Life
Part of making you feel at home in Buenos Aires and Santiago is doing our best to help you feel safe and cared for. Whether it is an orientation program that makes you feel prepared, housing that is well-located and comfortable, or the field trips that take you to places off the beaten path—we’re all about our student services.
Orientation
Our Comprehensive Orientation & Re-Entry Experience (CORE™) begins at home with our virtual orientation to help you prepare for your IES Abroad experience. Orientation continues once you arrive abroad and introduces you to the IES Abroad Buenos Aires staff, your fellow students, and the city of Buenos Aires. During the first week of the program, you will begin your language learning experience and participate in activities to meet and bond with others.
Upon your arrival in Santiago, your two-day orientation will include topics such as academic courses, housing, transportation, and health and safety, as well as a city tour.
Orientation continues throughout the semester with activities focusing on academic and cultural adjustment. Detailed information about housing, public transportation, culture, health and safety, and other important topics are also covered.
Housing
We want to make sure that your greatest challenge is deciding which landmarks to see first or discovering the best café—not finding a place to live where you feel comfortable. We do our best to locate housing that is reflective of how the local students are living. Our goal is that when you leave Buenos Aires or Santiago, it will feel like home.
Homestays - You have a furnished room in the home of a señora or family during your time in Buenos Aires and in Santiago. In Buenos Aires, your homestay provides breakfast and dinner during the week, and breakfast on the weekend. In Santiago, your homestay provides two meals per day each day of the week, including weekends. You will be provided all of your bed linens and towels in both cities. English-speaking hosts are available on a limited basis.
Extracurricular Activities & Cultural Events
Take advantage of the cultural events we organize in Buenos Aires and Santiago, such as:
- Visit to the Mataderos' Fair
- Dinner and Tango Show
- Tango Class
- IES Abroad Club Chileno Activities
- Local business visits
- Museum visits
