“I Love Kung FUUUUU!” – Kung Fu Panda

Last week we got to skip grammar lessons for a day and had Chinese class with a Kung Fu instructor! He taught us how to get out of all sorts of holds, how to deflect attacks, and even how to do some taiqi.  We learned that Taiqi and Kung fu are closely related in their movements, and that the coolest form of Kung fu was developed by a Chinese nun.  And yes, he did actually reference Kung Fu Panda.  Then we even got to practice on each other! Here’s how that went down:

Very happy to be out of the classroom for a bit! Always attentive. The Masters demonstrate how to deflect a punch. Master Zhong is about to tell Chris to push him over with all his might. Master won. Both Masters demonstrate how to escape an arm hold. After Master demonstrates an arm lock: "He slapped me in the face!" Joe Chau was dressed appropriately, as opposed to the rest of us. Juan teaches Jasen proper technique. Master Zhong again using Jasen for a demonstration. Our Chinese teacher puts Rafa in a wrist hold! The masters showed us how to fight with sticks. They also taught us the name of these sticks, but I forgot it.
