IES students admire their peers' work.

For our final project, we IES Abroad students in the Studio Rietveld art class created a gallery of our works at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie. During our last class session, IES Abroad staff, students, and friends came to see our gallery opening of works we created during the semester. Additionally, each student had a responsibility in getting the gallery together, including curating, audio-visual help, and promotion. The IES Abroad Studio Rietveld class is a special collaboration between IES Abroad and the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, where students travel to the academy weekly for class to be taught by Rietveld Academie graduate students. The Rietveld Academie, a fine arts college in Amsterdam Zuid, is named after Gerrit Rietveld, a Dutch designer and architect. In class, we took trips to galleries and museums as we learned about different art sub-topics each week, including collage, performance art, and video. We were free to select a medium of our choice for their final projects, so the space was filled with paintings, installation pieces, video projections, and other creative works. Many students took inspiration from their experiences in Amsterdam and with Dutch culture. Student artists include: Ella, Caleigh, Griffin, Hannah, Karina, Matt, Scott, Caroline, Eli, and me, Charlotte. Special thank-you to our teachers, Olle and Nicola, for the best semester!
