Elections

Moroccan elections are so different from elections in the U.S. To be fair, I don’t think any country does elections the way the U.S. does. (Am I watching a political debate, or an MTV reality show? Who knows). Campaign season lasted about two weeks, compared to the year and a half the U.S. spends following candidates and watching them drop like American Idol contestants. It’s also interesting how much Moroccans know, or are at least aware of, American politics.

A loVe Letter GoodBye. A scatter brain full of thoughts

Studying abroad MAY be the single greatest thing I have ever done in my entire life. No. It HAS been one of the best things that have happened to me in my 20 years of life. Wow. Now, I am not exaggerating, trying to create a cliché of a blog. I truly mean it. Why. It has turned around my way of thinking not only about our world, but my personal introspective world: my mind and my outlook on life and my social self.

Mail Time

At the beginning of October, I got an email containing my absentee ballot, which I printed, filled out, and prepared to mail back to the States. At this time, I also had to send to my home school an application for a program I was looking into and that application required me to send a notarized copy of my passport with it. For the sake of efficiency, I wanted to send both in one day. I figured the most obvious place to get a notarized copy of my passport would be the U.S. embassy.

Beautiful Italian Phrases Every Study Abroad Student Should Learn

People come to study in Milan for a variety of reasons: proximity to easy and inexpensive travel, the fashion culture, Italian food, the business industry, and myriad other topics. At the base of Italy’s multi-faceted beauty lies the Italian language. Unlike English, Italian’s lyrical phrasing and carefully structure assonance lends itself well to idioms, everyday phrases, and metaphors.

Thanksgiving in Italy

Hey all! Happy belated thanksgiving! I hope where ever you are you had a great meal (I had McDonalds but I’m not complaining). Anyways, so my friends and I did an Italy trip – Rome, Florence, and lastly Milan for 5 days. We ate tons of pizza and pasta and saw a bunch of cool landmarks. There’s not much to say because the video does it all so I wanted to touch upon another topic. First, listen…

Things you NEED to do in Vienna.

I don't think I've been dissapointed by ANY performances here in Vienna so far.  As a music major, my goal was to see as many performances/concerts as I can see throughout the semester.  There are three major performaning halls : Staatsoper, where most of the opers and ballet are held, Musikverien, where the Vienna Philharmonic usually performs, and the Konzerthaus, mostly chamber music and pop concerts as well, and even Vienna Phil as well.

An Open Letter to My Family

After my program ends, my mom, dad, and brother are coming to visit me in Morocco for a week. We’re planning on traveling to Casablanca, Marrakesh, Meknes, Rabat, and into the Sahara. The following is just a few things I want to tell them before they come visit, and I think it’ll be helpful for other travelers who want to visit Morocco in the middle of December.

Couchsurfing and an Open Letter to the Solo traveler

Dear fellow wanderlust, study abroader, or comfy couch reader,

Travel somewhere by yourself! Get out of your comfort zone and explore! Traveling on my own was easily the most informative and interesting part of my study abroad journey. I tend to be an introverted extrovert (or an extroverted introvert?)  by which I mean I love people, but I also desperately need time to recharge after being with people for too long. Due to the fact that I generally organize my life through an extrovert’s lens, I tend to travel with others.

seeing Paris come off the pages

Believe it or not, Paris is a pretty famous and popular city. Crazy I know, I was just as surprised as you are. It is not uncommon for artists and authors to find inspiration from this beautiful city and put it into their work. I am sure there are millions of books out there that take place in the city of Paris. There is so much to it and it is the city of love so why wouldn't someone want to use it as a setting for their story.
