Long before the Alhambra inspired students to study abroad in Granada, the Red Castle left a mark on the hearts of South American architects and designers. IES Abroad Granada Professor Yolanda Guash collaborated with colleagues from Universidad de Granada to trace the influences of Alhambra on Neo-Arab architecture in 16 South American countries. The result of their work is an exhibit at the Museo Casa de los Tiros in Granada this month.

One of the most-visited locations in Spain: Alhambra in Granada

The exhibit, titled Alhambras. Arquitectura Neoárabe en Latinoamérica, features more than 150 pieces including photographs, books, postcards, and models showcasing Alhambra’s influence on various architectural structures from casinos to skating rinks, and even billiards halls.

IES Abroad students in Professor Guash’s Islamic Art and Architecture of Spain and its Impact course had the opportunity to tour the Alhambra and experience the fortress that impacted design and architecture across the globe.
