Based on student feedback, recommendations from our Consortium, and the results of our rigorous program evaluations, we are excited to share the new programs listed below that are designed to further meet the academic needs and interests of our students.

SEMESTER (starting Fall 2018)

  • AMSTERDAM – Business & Economics
    Study international business and global economics in beautiful Amsterdam, one of Europe’s leading cities for business and progressive social economic policy, as well as entrepreneurship and start-ups. Enroll in a wide range of courses at Vrije Univeristeit Amersterdam’s School of Economics & Business Administration, including Business Information Systems, International Business Law, Global Supply Chain Management, and many others. Supplement your studies with an IES Abroad-taught course at the Center in Art History, Cultural Studies, and more.

  • BARCELONA
    • Arts & Culture
      With a vibrant and rich culture, Barcelona is a feast for the senses and the perfect location to study abroad. Choose from a series of courses on Art History, Cultural Studies, Literature, and more. You can also enroll in courses at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Universitat de Barcelona, Universitat Pompeu Fabra, and other local universities.
    • Journalism & Communications
      Barcelona is known for its spectacular location on the sea, laidback lifestyle, and lively culture, but did you know Barcelona is one of Europe’s leading centers for digital media, international advertising, journalism, and publishing? Choose from a series of courses in Communications, Political Science, Literature (including travel writing), Photography, and more. You can also take courses at Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona and Universitat Ramon Llull, two of Spain’s top universities for Journalism and Communications.
    • Political Science & International Relations
      With its mix of Spanish, European, and Catalan cultures, Barcelona offers the unique opportunity to see how regional, national, and international views are intertwined. Enjoy learning about the politics, regionalism, international security, international business and relations, and more when you study abroad in Barcelona. You can also take Spanish- or English-taught courses at Universitat Popmpeu Fabra and Univerisitat Ramon Llull, which both have strong faculties in Political Science and International Relations.
  • CAPE TOWN – Health, Culture & Development
    Designed to offer insight into the complexity and breadth of health, development, and sociological issues facing Southern Africa, this program offers specially-designed courses in a variety of health-and development-related disciplines, as well as courses focusing on relevant cultural aspects of the region. Two amazing, multi-day field trips through South Africa and its neighboring countries will further expand your understanding of this fascinating region.
  • MILAN – Fashion Design & Merchandising
    Armani, Dolce & Gabbana, Bottega Veneta, Miu Mui, Tod’s, Prada, and so many other fashion houses call Milan home, so where better to study fashion design and the business of fashion? You’ll encounter the sources of global trends in business, design, fabrics and materials, modeling, marketing, and more. You’ll also join the Milanese design and tailoring scene through courses at professional fashion institutes offering hands-on lessons in clothing and accessory creation.
  • PARIS – Studio Art, Dance & Music
    With its wealth of museums and a nearly endless list of artists, musicians, and dancers who have lived here, calling Paris a capital for the visual and performing arts is an understatement. Dive deep into your craft with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to study abroad in Paris with a concentration in painting, drawing, photography, music or dance at one of four prestigious Parisian art institutions--the Académie de Port-Royal (for painting and drawing), Studio Vermès (for photography), École Normale de Musique de Paris/Alfred Cortot (for musicians and composers), and the Marais Dance School (for ballet and contemporary dance).

    • Art History & Fashion
      From advancements in art and architecture of the Roman Empire and, later, the works of the Italian Renaissance to the forward thinking fashions by Fendi, Gattinoni, Brioni, and the other houses based here—Rome has, literally, millennia of artistic treasures, triumphs, and trends to study. Choose from a series of courses on Art History, Conservation, and more at the IES Abroad Center or take courses in Fashion at the Accademia di Costume e Moda, one of the most prestigious fashion academies in Rome. You can also study Painting, Drawing, Printmaking, and Sculpture at the Rome University of Fine Arts (RUFA).
    • Early Childhood Education
      From Montessori schools to Italy’s inclusive education model, Rome has been the birthplace of various revolutionary education practices. Take courses on child development, cross-cultural psychology, Italy’s education policies, and more. As part of your coursework, you’ll also spend time in preschools in Rome and Bologna, observing best education practices and witnessing the Montessori and Reggio Emilia approaches at work.
    • Film & Media Studies
      Designed to take you inside Italian cinema, our program makes Rome the set of your adventure as you study abroad in Rome. Here, you connect your passion to your studies while enrolling in courses that allow you to create your own documentary, explore the ethics of storytelling, and more. Enhance your experience with an optional internship placement at a local theater, production company, or other film-related organization.
    • History & Classics
      With more than 2,500 years of well-documented history, there is no better city in which to study History and Classics than Rome. Choose from a variety of courses exploring the topography, archaeology, history, works of art, mythology, Latin literature and epigraphy of Rome. You will also be able to gain real-world experience with an optional internship placement in archaeological museums and organizations, translating humanities materials, and not-for profit organizations preserving and promoting Italy’s cultural heritage.
    • International Relations
      Study International Relations in Rome, a city that laid the groundwork for much of Western Civilization. Explore the role and history of Italian involvement in European, Mediterranean, and world affairs from the 1800s to the present. You’ll examine the long-lasting interaction and implications of Italy’s position in the EU, the intricacies and complexities of Italian politics since the end of WWII, fundamental contemporary issues, such as terrorism and mass migration, and more. As part of your coursework, you’ll meet with political leaders; members of Parliament; international, national, and local institutions, and the Senate.
    • Sociology & Religion
      Explore millennia of Rome’s religious and cultural development by enrolling in courses focusing on the Roman Empire, the history of Judaism in Rome, social issued in modern Italy, and more. You also have the opportunity to take Religious Studies or Social Sciences courses at Università degli Studi Roma Tre. All courses are trip intensive and include faculty-led visits to some of Rome’s most significant sites.
  • SALAMANCA – Psychology
    Learn more about yourself and others while studying abroad in Salamanca. Our Psychology Program is a collaboration between IES Abroad and the Universidad Pontificia de Salamanca, a prestigious university well known for its Psychology Studies. Courses are taught in English and are taken at both the IES Abroad Center and the Universidad Pontificia de Salamanca.

SUMMER (starting Summer 2018)

  • AUCKLAND Summer Direct Enrollment – University of Auckland Film Production
    Put your directing, producing, or writing skills to the test, and discover first-hand what draws the global film industry to New Zealand with this exciting new program at the University of Auckland. You will be one of a maximum of 16 students working together to create a pilot episode of a serial drama. Roles in production, directing, writing, line production, design, and editing will be allocated in the first week of the course.
  • HONG KONG - Summer Internship 
    Gain professional experience over the summer with a guaranteed IES Internship in Hong Kong. With placements in a variety of fields including Art & Design, Finance, IT, Marketing, and NGOs, your internship will allow you to intern for up to 40 hours per week while experiencing this bustling business city. You’ll also enroll in a required 3- or 6-credit Leading Across Cultures internship seminar that will put your internship placement into the context of work culture in Hong Kong and back home.
  • LONDON Summer Direct Enrollment – University College London
    Live and learn like a local student when you study abroad in London and take classes at the world-leading University College London (UCL). UCL offers a vast range of courses from Social Sciences to Health, Physical Sciences to Anthropology, and more. Learn from leading academics and get to know your classmates—who come from 150+ different countries around the world! Outside of class, UCL offers a range of cultural events in and around London, like quiz nights, West End shows, a boat party, and more.
  • ROME Summer – Fashion Studies
    Our new summer program in Rome partners with the Accademia di Costume e Moda—recognized for its excellence in fashion and costume design education. Here, you’ll choose one of two fashion courses; Introduction to Fashion & Styling Communication or Introduction to Accessories Design. You’ll also enroll in an Art History course taught at the IES Abroad Center, which will give you an understanding and greater appreciation of the masterpieces found throughout the city.
  • SHANGHAI Summer Direct Enrollment – Business in Asia
    Gain a deep understanding of the Chinese economy and culture when you directly enroll at Antai College of Economics and Management (ACEM), Shanghai Jiao Tong University, which is the first business school in mainland China to have triple accreditation by AACSB, EQUIS, and AMBA. Designed for students who are interested in learning about international business, Chinese language and culture, and international relations, this immersive, English-taught program offers in-class coursework, company visits, social events, and tours.
