Although burgers are seen as an American food many places in Europe have burgers on their menus or even burger shops. Of course you’ll see Burger King, McDonald's, and even Five Guys in some countries. And you may be tempted to eat there or eat something off the menu that is only available there.
However, if you are craving a hamburger maybe give a local shop a chance. I personally have begun to love truffle sauces like truffle mayo. And while being here, I tried different truffle sauces, and they have all been incredible. You might also notice in the pictures I drink a lot of Orange Fanta. This is my favorite soda while being here and tastes so much better than the American version.
While this took a long time to finish, I enjoyed getting to not only try new foods, but I also enjoyed learning how something so stereotyped can be so different. Not only are these places known for there burgers there was even a burger convention where people could try the top-rated burgers in Spain. It was nice to see how food brought people together and how food is advertised in different ways.
From meal deals in downtown Salamanca shown to attract tourists to burger restaurants priding themselves on the type of meat they use and their awards. Some of these places were recommended to me while others I chose due to the burger descriptions on their online “carta”. I quite enjoyed getting to try all these different burgers I will possibly never get anywhere else, especially the restaurants that used Salamanca-based meat. Even as many travelers know that the McDonald's menus and qualities change as you travel it was an interesting experience to see how packed it gets when people go out to party and need food.
1) Panka Street Food: This is their smash burger with fries. This place is near Plaza Mayor and their menu prices are affordable. This was actually my first burger while in Salamanca. They also sell empanadas which are their specialty and in my opinion are really good.

2) McDonald’s: Sometimes you must feed your cravings. And to be honest the McDonalds here was better than what I would get in the states. I got this while waiting for my flight and airport prices are more expensive than the McDonald’s in Salamanca. As many people know McDonald menus vary by country, such as here in Spain they had a Filipinos Blanco McFlurry, Chicken McBites, and wedge potato fries.

3) Nero: This is their mini burger. Nero was a more expensive place, but it was also a fancier restaurant, so it made sense. I did tapas there and this mini burger was one of those. I would go again but with a group to tapear if you have a special event like a birthday. I will say it was quite small, and I would need three or more to be full from them.

4) Le Royal Cambronne: This was a French restaurant in Paris. It was about 16 euros, but the fries were really good and the burger tasted incredible. The place was actually quite fancy feeling. The menu also had an English version which showed now many tourists come through here.

5) Goiko: This burger place is a franchise and was not too far from Gran Via in Salamanca. I got the Kevin Bacon Burger which is Goiko’s most popular burger item. The Kevin burger was quite large and filling. I was surprised by how tall the burger was. I also had some chicken wings as an appetizer. Which while a bit pricey, 4 pieces for 9 euros, were actually quite good.

6) Majestic Train Spot: While I was on IES Abroad Salamanca’s Spring Portugal trip I went to a burger place with my friend during our three-hour free time. We walked past McDonalds and then saw this place. The burger was so good I thought to myself, why are people going to McDonald’s when this is right here and even a bit cheaper.

7) Envy Burgers: This is la comarca which was 16.5 euros. This was the first time being asked how I wanted my burger meat to be made. I asked for “al punto” which is a medium. The staff was also quite nice since I did not know how to ask for medium and said if I wanted it cooked more they would. This burger had truffle sauce which I enjoyed enough to ask for a side of it for my fries. This was also the first place to not have Coca-Cola products.

8) Charra Burger: This place is also a bit hidden as I almost missed which alley to walk through. I got a “Reina Madre”, and it was definitely the messiest burger I had due to the runny yolk. I was also offered the student meal deal which included a burger, a drink, and a desert.

9) MHG Alimentacion: There is a corner café and bakery near the residence hall. They have premade burgers and really good wedge fries. I can admit I have gotten a few to take home and eat later. Although I do have to ask “Frio, por favor” or else they heat it up. The menu price is also better as it includes a burger, a drink, and fries for 5.50 euros.

10) Irish Theatre: This place is a hot spot for students studying abroad. The organization “Salamanca Erasmus” uses this place as their headquarters. From karaoke nights to football matches streaming, this place is a nice place to check out. I went and ordered food while doing some work. The place gets more packed after 11 P.M. so the best time to work and enjoy some food is between 7 P.M. and 9 P.M.

11) Burger Deal Photos in Salamanca: While walking through Salamanca downtown you will see many burger deals being advertised. These burger deals can range in price but usually include a drink, fries, and a burger. Here is another picture to show the variety in the advertisement and how popular this deal is as I found two of these all while standing in one spot and other meal deals.

12) La Pepita: This burger place was in a corner, so I almost did not find it. They also asked how I wanted my burger patty cooked so I asked for medium rare which is “al punto”. The burger I got was “Supreme”. It was very interesting looking, and you have to smash the burger down a bit before eating it as explained by the waiter when he asked if I had been there before and had this burger.
