Today is/was my last day here on the islands, crazy how fast time flies when you are having fun. I never really thought we would reach this moment in time. It is all becoming so real and happening so fast. Tomorrow I start my journey back to the United States. We have to be at the airport tomorrow around 10:30, our flight it at 2:00pm I believe and we land in Quito around 5:00pm. I won’t have much time in Quito either. We will be dropping our stuff off at a hotel and getting dinner at seven. Then it is time for me to say my final goodbyes. My flight to Miami is very early in the morning leaving me only a few hours tomorrow night to say goodbye to the friends I made over the course of four months.
I am going to miss a lot of things about the islands. As much as I hate “islands time” and everyone showing up fashionably late to things I do enjoy the small town island life. I enjoy being able to walk places, although I do miss the convince of cars, I will miss all the wildlife (mostly the sea lions), going to the beach almost everyday, everything always being relaxed and will miss living a simple life with very few things. This adventure made me realize a lot of the things I own back home I really don’t need at all. After living four months out of suitcase and maybe only 40 pairs of articles of clothing varying from shirts to bathing suits to undergarments, I found I enjoy owning fewer things. I plan to clean my whole room from just junk to clothes and get rid of a bunch of things I accumulate over the course of living.
I’m all packed up and ready for my last dinner with the host family. I have done a bunch last minute shopping, mainly for myself because I am obsessed with their clothes, and took my last dip in the Pacific Ocean. I know I have mentioned it before but I am really hoping to come back sometime in the near future. I fell in love with this place and besides my college campus it has become my second home. I will probably cry tonight as we are all going to get together for a last hoorah. It’s going to be sad but also nice to reflect on this journey we all encounter together.

Hello!! My name is Madison, I’m Massachusetts made and currently a junior at the University of Maine majoring in Marine Science and minoring in Spanish. I love the ocean and can sometimes be a science nerd so I am really looking forward to spending my time in the Galapagos Islands, where Darwin happened to discover evolution. I enjoy drawing, taking photos with my GoPRo, and snorkeling/diving. Follow me to stay updated on my underwater adventures!
