Here Today, Gone Tomorrow

I can’t believe that in just a few short days, I’ll finally be packing my things to go to Germany! I just received my host family information, and I couldn’t be more excited. The only thing separating me from juicy brots is….packing. I tend to be an over packer. You’d think that by now, having gone on a few trips, I’d be able to put together my things and pack them nicely into a suitcase. However, I am known in the family as one who always ends up cold, hot, or drenched because I forgot my umbrella. I vow to be better this time!

I’m most nervous about living in a host family without a roommate. I’ve stayed with hosts two times while abroad. A few years ago, I lived with a family in France, and had three other roommates from other countries! This made it easier because I immediately had buddies. And a few months ago I stayed with a family in India and had six other group members with me. This also was an advantage in such a different culture. I’m sure my host family will be nice and it will be a great experience. I was notified that I live near other students from the school, so hopefully I can walk with them there!

I’ve heard that the parks in Berlin are beautiful and I can’t wait to run there. I’m so excited to see all the different things Berlin has to offer. I’ve spoken to a few friends who have visited before, and I haven’t heard any thing bad.

I can’t wait to start classes and meet people in the program! Here’s to a great summer!

I work as a general chemistry TA, and when I’m not looking at a periodic table, you’ll find me running. I’ve ran a few marathons and can’t wait to explore Berlin while running about. I also love yoga, reading books, and of course I have a passion for travel! I’m so excited to be studying abroad this summer in Germany! I can’t wait to soak up the culture and share my journey here with you!
