JP 201I - Japanese Language in Context Novice Abroad III

This class is for students with two semesters of Japanese instruction or the equivalent. By the program’s conclusion, successful students will have the linguistic, socio-linguistic and socio-cultural competence necessary to deal with language functions such as making phone calls, making appointments, invitations, polite requests, and apologies.

This course is designed to strengthen what students will study in class and to promote communicative competence by interacting with Japanese people outside of the classroom. The Instructor will provide students various tasks to interact with host families, center staff, friends, and visitors. Through these interactions, students and their interlocuters learn to negotiate and understand the meaning of each other’s utterances.
