Milan Course Preregistration Update

Course pre-registration for Spring 2025 Milan programs has been rescheduled. All students will be informed of the new date soon.

JP 101i - Japanese Language in Context Novice Abroad I

This class is for students with no background in Japanese. By the program’s conclusion, successful students will have the basic socio-linguistic and socio-cultural competence necessary to communicate in basic Japanese, such as self-introductions, ordering in a restaurant, shopping, describing daily activities, and sending out invitations.

This course is designed to strengthen what students will study in class and to promote communicative competence by interacting with Japanese people outside of the classroom. The Instructor will provide students various tasks to interact with host families, center staff, friends, and visitors. Through these interactions, students and their interlocuters learn to negotiate and understand the meaning of each other’s utterances.
