Overview IES Abroad offers students the opportunity to live in fully furnished apartments. The University of New South Wales Village (UNSWV) apartments offer comfortable accommodation and are located conveniently on campus, close to the main courtyard, and the Sport and Recreation Center. Apartments are typically mixed gender and offer a communal, social lifestyle, as UNSWV has a campus/community-oriented feel. Students are allocated to their rooms on a first come, first served basis. As soon as a preliminary program calendar is available, it will appear below. However, this calendar is subject to change. Please do not make independent travel arrangements (including visits from family or friends) before you arrive on-site, receive any calendar updates from the IES Abroad Center staff during orientation, and finalize your course registration. Remember that you will not be excused from academic obligations, including final exams or required IES Abroad events, in order to travel independently. You can easily make personal travel plans once on-site!
The IES Abroad orientation program is designed to ease you into life in Sydney, giving you guidance and support as you begin to adjust to your new surroundings. Attendance is compulsory. Macquarie Course Selection Classes at Macquarie are called “units” and each unit is worth a designated number of credit points. Macquarie units are worth ten points and are equivalent to four US semester credits. You must carry a full load while studying abroad at Macquarie University, which is the equivalent of 40 credit points (about 4 classes) and 16 IES Abroad credits for the semester. The National Theatre School of Ireland-Gaiety School of Acting (NTSI (GSA)) was founded in 1986 by Joseph Dowling, the internationally recognized theater director, and is known as Dublin’s premier acting school. The Fall semester begins with an IES Abroad three week course (3 credits, Soundings from the Fringe) based on fringe theatre. This course runs concurrently with the Dublin Fringe Festival and students will attend several performances as part of this 3 week course. Following the 3 week course, students partake in the 10 week NTSI (GSA) semester in a fully integrated intensive acting program.
