Holiday Availability: All IES Abroad offices will be closed on Dec 24, Dec 25, Dec 31, and Jan 1 as we take some time to celebrate. During the weeks of 12/22 and 12/29, our team will be smaller, so responses may take longer than usual. Thanks for your understanding—and happy holidays!

The Marathon Begins

Week 1 has come to a close, but my mind has already been opened beyond measure. As I tried to mentally prepare myself, I found myself trying to be aware of things I had no idea about. I did research on the tutorial system, looked at videos of others' experiences, and spent my last few weeks at home spending tons of time doing the things I miss the most right now, but nothing I did could've truly prepared me for the transformation I am going through.

A Day in the Life

I wake up to a sun shining light over the city. I look out the balcony door and see the city sprawled before me. It’s the only reason I'm willing to wake up. I do my morning routine, getting ready and eating breakfast. It’s always a treat when my host mom makes crepes for us. I fill mine with Nutella and bananas. I look at the time and see I have 15 minutes left until I need to head out for the day. As I walk back to my room, I pass my housemate (we are lucky enough to have our own rooms). We greet each other, wishing good days for the other.

Perú

One of the highlights of my time studying abroad was the week-long trip to Peru that our program took us on. At the end of our time in Argentina, we spent time with our host families and said our sad goodbyes hoping that we would see them again someday! I am pretty sure I will see my host mom again as I adored her and Argentina.

Travel Troubles

No matter where I go on the weekends, I always seem to run into some sort of issue. At the beginning of the semester that made me incredibly anxious and frustrated, but after all these weeks of travel troubles, I’ve learned how to roll with the punches.

The 3 Things That I Wish I'd Brought with Me to Barcelona

As long as you have the bare essentials: passport, money, clothes; you will have an incredible time doing study abroad. There does not need to be an overabundance of stuff that you bring with you to your study abroad destination. For the most part, you will be too busy exploring, having fun, or taking care of daily tasks to need much more than the clothes on your back, your electronics (for obvious reasons), toiletries, money, and enough to keep you entertained in your down time.
