As a first-generation study abroad student on financial aid, the idea of studying abroad initially felt intimidating. I couldn’t help but notice that the concerns weighing on me—like figuring out how to afford the experience, applying for scholarships, saving enough money and sticking to a budget—didn’t seem to trouble many of my peers to the same extent. Worrying about money is always stressful, and it’s easy to feel disheartened when comparing your situation to others who might not face the same challenges. 

Course Preregistration You will select IES Abroad courses on the Course Preregistration Form, which will be available at your MyIESabroad account before the program begins. We will notify you when this form becomes available. You must submit this form by the given deadline. Final registration occurs on-site after your arrival in Berlin. Please obtain course approval from your home institution for all courses you intend to take before your departure, especially if you intend to fulfill specific degree requirements with these courses. Academics You will enroll in at least 15 credits (5 courses). You may choose courses from the Urban Studies and Social Sciences (USS) and from the SSIA program (3 credits each). We recommend that you also take a German language course (4 credits). All USS and SSIA courses are taught in English, except for language courses, which are taught in German.
