I am a 20 year-old eldest daughter who is a self-proclaimed empath and people-pleaser. I am a first-Gen student studying Psychology and French and I work with a local K-6 school in the area. In my free time, you'll find me on walks or reading!
I am originally from Los Angeles and I moved to Washington for college. I have been a tap dancer since I was three years old, and I teach tap dance at my school. I am the president of an identity-based club and I enjoy collaging and trying new food!
To be completely frank, I was a complete mess when I was deciding where to study abroad. I was a huge ball of frenetic, anxious energy, overwhelmed with all of the unknown that I was currently faced with. I was standing at a fork in the road, and there were dozens upon dozens of different paths to choose from. It was my least favorite question to be asked at family gatherings and trips with my hometown friends: “So, where are you going to study abroad?” As the spring semester of my sophomore year drew to a close, I knew that I needed to come to a final decision.
The best way that I can describe this pre-departure phase is as a balancing act. Have you ever tried plate spinning? You know how circus performers spin plates on sticks, balancing sticks on their heads and feet, one balanced on their tongue—I’ve never tried it, but after this past month I can imagine how it feels. The preparation period for my upcoming semester abroad has been trying to say the least.
