Daily Life in Freiburg

I live in a six person apartment style dorm, twenty minutes by foot from the city with five roommates- one from France and four from Germany. I go to classes at IES Monday through Thursday, explore Freiburg, do homework, and have an all around splendid time.

>>I’m falling behind because my drawings are taking too long and school is taking ups lot of time so I’m going to do a few posts without drawings to tide y’all over until I finish my Oktoberfest sketch:)<<

Ten, Please!

Yesterday was a huge milestone for me. I’ve been working towards this moment for months, maybe even my whole life, and I just wanted to say thank you to my friends and family for supporting me. I couldn’t have done it without you…

A Day in the Life of an IES Beijing Student

When I came to Beijing, the thing I was the most uncertain about wasn’t the air quality, whether I’d like the food or if I could drink the water. It was actually what my average day to day life would be like. So for students as curious as I was, I decided I would make this blog post to take you through a day of what it’s like to study at IES Beijing. I’m currently in the Language Intensive program, so this is our schedule, but if you sign up for the Contemporary Issues program, note that your schedule will be a bit different.

Halloween just got very popular in Japan the past two years. People treat it as a dress-up day, without really knowing the meaning behind Halloween. :)

Halfway There

You know when you’re halfway through a really good book? You get to the point in your reading where you can’t put it down and you really want to see how it ends. You’re anxious to see how your protagonist grew. You want to see what else is in store for the characters you’ve grown close to. You need to know.

Do as the Locals Do: Sports Edition

I love attending sporting events at Northwestern – the sea of purple shirts, the noise of cheers (GO U! NU!), and of course the talent of our division one athletes always make for an exciting event. While I wouldn’t trade this semester abroad for anything, I will admit that my autumn has been incomplete without Saturday football games. So when our IES social events coordinator organized an outing to a game in a professional championship tournament, I knew I had to go.  The sport? It was about as European as they get: handball.
