Eating My Way Through Granada
I can’t believe I’ve yet to do a post solely dedicated to food! The food in Spain has been nothing short of amazing, albeit different from what I’m used to. The Spanish have a generally light breakfast around 8-9 AM, a heavy lunch between 2-3 PM, and a light dinner around 9-10 PM. Every morning, my host mom (who is an amazing cook) makes my roommate and I freshly squeezed orange juice, green tea, and toasted baguette with olive oil and tomato.
My New Favorite Place!!!!!!!!
My new favorite place has to be Ortakoy! It’s this wonderful place by the water with a lot of local musicians and a bunch of stray cats (they are everywhere in Turkey). Ortakoy is famous for their wonderful Kumpir! It’s a huge potato with veggies, cheese, and sausage inside. It’s one of my favorite food! Also they have the famous waffles with chocolate, fruit, and pistachio cream. Ortakoy has a great vibe and you can see the bridge light show. It’s amazing. Anyone who goes to Istanbul has to go to Ortakoy!
Where the Wild Things Are
A Mississippi petroleum engineer, 3 middle eastern women clad in full burkas, a burly German, the most annoying nine year old boy from the United Arab Emirates, a crazy Cape-Tonian and the coolest father and daughter you will ever meet walk into a bar…. No wait, it was a safari van. And from there starts a day of adventure!
French Food
As I have certainly mentioned before, I absolutely love the food here. Before arriving, I was worried about being a vegetarian in a country that is definitely less veg-friendly than the US, but I haven’t had any big issues with it. There might be fewer vegetarian options in restaurants, but I can always find something. My host mom is happy to make meatless food, or leave the meat out of my portion.
It’s Always Time for a Short Getaway.
Once in a while, I feel trapped by my everyday routine and the hectic city life. That is why I love Barcelona and all the different dimensions it has to offer. Here are some of my favorite places and neighborhoods that I like to visit whenever I need some fresh air, personal space, and new inspiration!
Rock Climbing
One of the classes I’m taking while I’m here is rock climbing. If you come here and have the space in your schedule, I would definitely recommend taking it. The instructor is from New Zealand and genuinely the nicest guy I’ve ever met. The class meets once a week for 3 hours, but those hours fly by because it’s tons of fun. Typically we climb in the rec center on campus, but last week we went on a field trip to go bouldering at Castle Hill. It was a blast.
Luna Park Visit
Another week has passed. The days seems to be flying by and it is crazy to think that I’ve been in Sydney for over a month now. Classes are getting interesting and I’m actually enjoying them. My international business classes are full of international and exchange students and it’s great to meet people from all over the world. Less than half of the students in my International Business Strategy tutorial are from Australia. There is one guy that is from Ukraine and has lived most of his life in Japan, now studying abroad in Australia for a year.
Just Another Saturday at the Opera House
What a busy week!
School is officially on full power as tutorials and the hours of reading started this week. Tutorials are much better than lectures because we are in much smaller groups and we get to talk to people in class.
