Freiburg does not have its own airport, so depending on which airport you fly into, you will need to plan at least 1-2 hours of travel time after you arrive in order to reach Freiburg before 5pm. Basel Airport is closest to Freiburg (about 1 hour travel time) and buses travel regularly to Freiburg. However, there are no direct flights to Basel from the U.S. To avoid airport check-in, customs and visa complications, we strongly recommend that you fly directly into Germany rather than connecting in any other European country. Upon arriving at Nice Côte d'Azur Airport between 9:00 am -1pm, you will be greeted by some of our IES Staff near baggage claim. They will answer questions and help you find the taxi stand or give you instruction to the tramway - so that you can head directly to your housing.
