Thamine Nayeem is a multimedia storyteller whose work bridges global issues and personal identity. As a finalist in the 2016 IES Abroad Film Festival, her short film “I Choose Openness” explored the complexities of intersecting identities, drawing from her transformative semester in Rabat. After graduating magna cum laude from the University of Richmond with a B.A. in English Literature, she went on to produce impactful news content at Al Jazeera and BuzzFeed. Currently, she serves as a Video Producer at the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), where she creates videos for CFR.org and its social media platforms. Thamine’s storytelling continues to reflect her commitment to amplifying underrepresented voices and fostering cross-cultural understanding.

“Study abroad radically changed my life’s trajectory. As a first-generation
immigrant, I once believed that success meant following a carved-out path. But during my semester in Rabat, Morocco, I gained the confidence to navigate uncertainty—and, by capturing the experience on video, the technical skills to pursue storytelling. This new path led me from Al Jazeera to the Council on Foreign Relations, where I use video to spotlight global issues and foster dialogue within the international community.”
