Professor Christine Alfsen has made a lasting impact at IES Abroad Nice through her dynamic teaching on sustainability, global risks, and regional development in the Mediterranean. A former United Nations Senior Advisor and UNESCO official, she brings decades of global experience to the classroom—often taking students beyond it, from the hills of Provence to her own olive grove. Her course has become a cornerstone of the IES Abroad Global Pillars sustainability curriculum, and her generosity, both academic and personal, has shaped countless student experiences. Her legacy as a passionate educator and global citizen continues to inspire.

“Study abroad is a physical, mental, and cultural voyage for most students arriving in Nice, France. Teaching thus becomes an enquiry into their minds, an attempt to pique their curiosity, and a quest to push them to go further in the study of complex systems when they leave. Having navigated the complex world of international organizations, I share doubts and experiences in a chaotic world. Success for me is students connecting the dots between the need for justice, diversity, and sustainability.”
