The Aftermath of an Attack: A Weekend in Barcelona
I spent the last month adjusting to my new life in Ireland, visiting tourist attractions, taking a bus trip to the West Coast, and studying at Trinity College Dublin, but it was finally time to take a quick trip off the Emerald Isle to do some exploring. I am particularly fond of Spain because of the beautiful weather they get well into the Fall season. I appreciate the strong culture, rich architecture, and bright mosaics around the cities.
The rain that revealed Mallorca
It rained two out of the three days that I was on the Spanish island of Mallorca. Our tour guide said that it only rains this much on the island about once every five years.
All of the students on the trip were upset that we wouldn’t get to lay out on the beaches that Mallorca is known for. However, the rain proved to be a blessing in disguise. Instead of only visiting the obvious attractions, such as the beaches, we got to visit the more isolated parts of the island.
2 weeks in Freiburg
Today I've officially been in Freiburg for 2 weeks and it's gone by so quickly but also felt so long... I'm quickly realizing that 4 months is not nearly enough time to see all that Germany has to offer let alone all of Europe. Before going abroad, I was warned by friends and family that it can often be lonely and that pictures and social media can make it look a lot more glamorous than it really is.
Things That Caught My Eye in Le Marais and Montmartre
Paris is one of the most photographed cities on earth for good reason. The architecture, the art, and the people in the city have captivated photographers for over a century now.
I have always tried to create unique images and focus on the small details of daily life that often go overlooked or ignored. In a city where beauty surrounds you, it gets easy to become desensitized to the splendor and meticulous artistry that exists throughout Paris.
Quick Bike Ride to France
I’m writing this blog post, before my first day of classes. It’s crazy that it’s been almost three weeks since I arrived to Freiburg but time really has flown by. It’s been difficult to find the time to sit down and write because I’ve consistently had something to do either with orientation or with friends. However, I have really enjoyed how everything has gone so far during my time abroad but now that classes have started, I’m looking forward to things calming down since I’ll have a lot more structure to my daily schedule.
Stepping Outside Your Comfort Zone
I'm not exactly somebody who ventures outside of their comfort zone often, and it's something that I am looking to change about myself. These past three weeks in Buenos Aires have been so amazing that I refuse to fathom the fact that I only have four more weeks in Buenos Aires before my journeys take me off to Peru and Santiago, Chile.
Don't Spaniards Just Drink Wine and Nap All Day?
In the months and weeks before a trip, excessive daydreaming can be the travellers’ folly. I, like many, fell into the trap. Toward the end of summer, I wondered what my homestay, friends, and classes would be like. I thought about my future life in Spain full of fiestas and siestas, and vinos and amigos. But life rarely goes the way it is supposed to.
