Favorite Memory from Studying Abroad: There were so many amazing moments, but I loved getting in touch with my family roots while abroad. My mom's side of the family originated in Salisbury, England, and my dad's parent's have a bench in Edinburgh, Scotland, so it was amazing to have the opportunity to visit these places that were highly valued by my relatives. Not to mention, I could visit extended family and their friends around the London area!
Favorite Local Food of Host Country: I loved the chicken avocado sandwich from Pret, a chain sandwich store in London. It wasn't anything extravagant, but I would often take these with me and eat them in scenic and famous locations, taking in the sights.
Interests/Hobbies: I love art history, photography, traveling, and anything relating to the UK! All of these made for the perfect combination while I was studying in London. London has some fantastic museums that house world-famous art, and there's often no entrance fee! In one week, I went to the British Museum four times. I also always had my camera in my backpack, ready to snap shots of anything I stumbled upon. Because London is such an international hub, it was extremely easy to get around, whether it was sightseeing in the city or venturing further to a new and exciting place!
What advice do you have for a student considering studying abroad? My biggest piece of advice is to never say no (within reason!). Having an open mind in trying new foods, visiting museums or cities you didn't previously know much about, or taking advantage of an opportunity for a once-in-a-lifetime experience can be a little uncomfortable or nerve-racking, especially when you're in a foreign country. I tried to get out as much as possible and always try something new, and it truly made my summer in London unforgettable and one of the best experiences of my life. You get to know yourself and your friends in a completely new way!
Personal Study Abroad Blog: I kept a photo blog for IES while I was in London (another amazing experience!), please check it out! http://blogs.iesabroad.org/author/ktaylor3trinity-edu/
