New Barcelona Language & Culture Summer Program
This summer, we are offering a new seven-week program, UPF Language & Culture,  that will include four weeks of language intensive courses, as well as one or two area studies courses at Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF), one of our partner universities in Barcelona.

Students on this program can earn 7-10 credits, depending on whether they take one or two (for an additional fee) UPF courses. Offered in both English and Spanish, area studies courses at UPF will range from beginner level to advanced, and will be available in a variety of disciplines. Students will attend UPF with both local and international students.

The program will begin on June 17, 2013, giving students on the quarter system the opportunity to participate in the program.

New Field Study Destination for Berlin Metropolitan Studies: Istanbul, Turkey
Beginning in Spring 2014, the IES Abroad Berlin Metropolitan Studies Program will add Istanbul, Turkey, to its field study destinations. The week-long trip to Istanbul will replace the existing trip to Paris.

The decision to change the field study location was based on a recommendation of the Program Review Committee. As the only city that lies on two continents, the committee members believe Istanbul  will offer an academically rich contrast to Berlin and St. Petersburg because it will take students to a location that they might not visit on their own.

In Istanbul, students will visit historically significant sites, such as the Blue Mosque, the Topkapi Palace, the Grand Bazaar, the Basilica Cistern, and the Istanbul Archeology Museum, home of the sarcophagus of Alexander the Great. Like St. Petersburg, Istanbul has been recognized by the United Nations as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Please see our website for more information on the Berlin Metropolitan Studies Program.
