Where would we be today without the very first IES Abroad lovebirds, co-founders Clarence and Alberta Giese? They were newlyweds in 1950, part of a group of 23 students to travel to Vienna, Austria for the first IES Abroad program (formerly the Institute of European Studies). It was their shared love for study abroad that began it all!

So, who better to feature on Throwback Thursday than four other couples who fell in love withand inour founding city? Click on their names below to read each couple's heart-warming story.

Bill and Grace McGrath (1968-69)

Garland and Brenda Reiter (1974-75)

Don and Nancy Carlin (1977-78)

John and Valeria Anderson (1994-95)
