I took a weekend trip to Vigo! I was really nervous to solo travel because I had never done it before, but the hardest part was knowing which bus to get on (there was only one at my departure time). I absolutely loved Vigo and its landscapes. When I first got there, I slept for eight hours in the middle of the day, as I was super tired from hanging out with friends and getting no sleep the days before.
But after that, I went down to the marina and had a lovely Tinto de Verano. After that, I went up to the Fortaleza O Castro, an ancient castle in the heart of Vigo. On the hike up, I saw some sculptures and monuments pictured in my blog, but the coolest part was being inside of the castle. The view of Vigo and the ocean was amazing! After O Castro, I went to a nice dinner and ate the best shrimp of my life. I ordered a feast of salad, bread, the shrimp, and another Tinto de Verano. The shrimp must have been fresh from the sea, and there was so much butter and garlic in the bowl. I really enjoyed it.
I decided to call it a night after that, but on my way home I watched an amazing street performer doing a dance using a giant hoop. It was beautiful and the dancer was very funny. The next day, I went to a coffee shop for some coffee and toast, while I worked on some homework. After that I went to Playa de Samil, a massive beach. I soaked up the sun for a couple hours, then went and got a milkshake before heading back to the bus station. The bus station is connected to a giant shopping mall, which I enjoyed during my free time before hopping on the bus back to Salamanca! Overall, I really enjoyed what Vigo had to offer. It was a youthful city with a very laid-back vibe, similar to salamanca, but with oceans and beaches! I would definitely go back and recommend that other travelers visit.
Don’t be afraid to solo-travel! It was very liberating for me!
