PO/IR 340 - International Politics in East Asia from a Chinese Perspective

This course provides students with a basic knowledge of international politics in East Asia in the first decade of the 21st C. by touching upon four topics:

  1. Theories and methods for analyzing international politics in East Asia
  2. An exploration into the characteristics of the East Asian cooperation and conflict
  3. Major factors that have been shaping the regional situation since the turn of the century (great power relations and regional crisis)
  4. Possible ways that would lead to lasting peace and prosperity in the region.

Taking the international background of students into consideration, the course puts some weight on introducing the Chinese views on the above-mentioned topics. Meanwhile, it calls attention to the related latest arguments outside China, putting students in an environment of cross-cultural dialogue.
