William Haglund, IES Abroad Beijing ’05, is the Associate Director of Global Marketing for IES Abroad. He predominantly works on the Study Abroad Foundation (SAF). SAF supports students from China, Japan, and South Korea finding short term (semester long) study abroad opportunities with universities in the United States, United Kingdom, and other western countries. William directs international marketing and communications initiatives. This includes implementing content strategies supporting awareness generation, demand creation, and sales enablement. He’s based out of IES Abroad’s headquarters in Chicago, USA.

In the past his career has mostly taken place in China (twelve years) working in advertising, branding, and marketing agencies working on clients such as L’Oréal, Grohe, and Carlsberg. He is professionally fluent in Mandarin Chinese although he doesn’t use it as frequently these days. Career highlights include making a KPOP music video, creating a mascot, and now, being a colleague to his former study abroad advisor.

You enroll in a total of 6 credits for the summer. 3-credit Spanish language course* 3-credit area studies course taught in Spanish *Highly advanced students, as determined by the Language Placement Assessment, may enroll in a second area studies course instead of the required Spanish language course. Before you depart, you will participate in a mandatory virtual orientation course which is designed to prepare you for your time abroad. The virtual orientation course consists of videos for you to watch in your own time as well as two live sessions.
