Academics in Rome

With the academic semester in full swing, I wanted to use this blog post to express my appreciation for the IES Abroad course offerings and how they integrate their students into the city of Rome.

To start, the classes I’m taking this semester are as follows:

Exploring South of Spain: Seville

Seville is a hidden treasure, in my opinion. While abroad, everyone wants to leave Spain and travel to different parts of Europe, but I hope you'll consider visiting the south of Spain as it has so much to offer. While I was only there for a short period of time, visiting Seville was an absolute blast, and the views were impeccable. I went in September when Seville had temperatures up to 100 degrees Fahrenheit, so just keep that in mind if you do not tolerate the heat well!

Snapshots from Morocco

This past weekend, our program organized an unforgettable trip to Morocco. We visited the cities of Tangiers, Assilah, Rabat and Chefchaouen. We experienced some of the more traditional tourist activities, like camel riding on a lovely beach and enjoying absolutely  generous portions of couscous, but the trip was certainly planned to provide us with a deeper connection to Moroccan culture. I certainly feel that connection still, and I don’t think it is something I will ever forget.

Travel Guide for Amsterdam

Amsterdam offered spectacular views and amazing food. Arriving at AMS in the night, we were able to easily take the train from the airport to the Centraal location for about 5 euros. The train took about 20 minutes, and after, we walked about 10 minutes to our place of residence. I would highly recommend staying in the Centraal area as it is close to everything and very well connected to other parts of Amsterdam. On our first full day in Amsterdam, we booked a canal boat tour. This is a must do when in Amsterdam.

A Day in the Life: Embracing the Island

Living in San Cristóbal, the largest island in the Galápagos archipelago, offers a unique blend of adventure, natural beauty, and an island lifestyle. Here’s a glimpse into my typical day.

Morning Routine

My day begins around 6:30 or 7:30am, depending on if I exercise in the morning or not. My favorite run is to La Lobería, where I can soak in the coastal views and maybe catch sight of sea lions basking in the sun. Some days, I opt to run around town, surveying the local life.

The Twelve-Person Communal Kitchen Is Actually Kind of Great???

When I received my housing placement from IES Abroad, I was a bit disappointed and quite nervous. Though my accommodation seemed great in many ways, it had one major drawback: the kitchen would be shared between twelve students. As someone who planned to cook most of my own meals, cares a lot about cleanliness, and has dietary restrictions, the idea of having to share one kitchen with eleven other random IES Abroad students sounded terrible.

The Capital of New Zealand

Over break I visited the capital of New Zealand, Wellington. This was not the original capital but was made so due to the fact it is in the middle of the country. Wellington is a beautiful city with most of its drives on the beautiful blue shores and a constant view of planes flying into the airport. Speaking of the airport, Wellington is one of the windiest cities in the world, so flights are often delayed. My flight was delayed and hour and at one point in the week my friend's dad was stuck in another city for a night after a work event.
