Where the Wild Things Are

A Mississippi petroleum engineer, 3 middle eastern women clad in full burkas, a burly German, the most annoying nine year old boy from the United Arab Emirates, a crazy Cape-Tonian and the coolest father and daughter you will ever meet walk into a bar…. No wait, it was a safari van. And from there starts a day of adventure!

French Food

As I have certainly mentioned before, I absolutely love the food here. Before arriving, I was worried about being a vegetarian in a country that is definitely less veg-friendly than the US, but I haven’t had any big issues with it. There might be fewer vegetarian options in restaurants, but I can always find something. My host mom is happy to make meatless food, or leave the meat out of my portion.

Rock Climbing

One of the classes I’m taking while I’m here is rock climbing.  If you come here and have the space in your schedule, I would definitely recommend taking it. The instructor is from New Zealand and genuinely the nicest guy I’ve ever met.  The class meets once a week for 3 hours, but those hours fly by because it’s tons of fun.  Typically we climb  in the rec center on campus, but last week we went on a field trip to go bouldering at Castle Hill.  It was a blast.

Luna Park Visit

Another week has passed. The days seems to be flying by and it is crazy to think that I’ve been in Sydney for over a month now. Classes are getting interesting and I’m actually enjoying them. My international business classes are full of international and exchange students and it’s great to meet people from all over the world. Less than half of the students in my International Business Strategy tutorial are from Australia. There is one guy that is from Ukraine and has lived most of his life in Japan, now studying abroad in Australia for a year.

My Amsterdam Afternoon

The most common sound is Amsterdam is without a doubt the crisp ding ding of a bicycle bell, warning walkers and other bikers to make room. And for good reason. Our tour guide told us there are more bicycles than people in the city. We took this to heart and tried to stay out of the way, though there were a few frightening near-collisions with bikes zipping by.

After Hilary Term

It’s the last week of classes at Trinity College Dublin. This is the final week of Hilary Term. This doesn’t make sense to me. How on earth did this happen? Surely I haven’t been here that long! But even though I can hardly believe it, it’s still true. This is week twelve, and starting next week, Trinity Term begins.
