Sailing

Kia Ora!

Here’s the new poem! If you haven’t noticed I have difficulty ending poems, so this one is no different. Enjoy!

Sailing

The ever floating ship
It’s sails never resting

Heat boiling from its insides
Turning the air to a certain ash

As it floats, directionless
Aiming to alienate audiences

It coasts, into the dark caves
Where the stars can still be seen

And the long enduring pensive moon
Rests, but never sleeps

My Life Now as a Madrileño

It has now been about two weeks since I arrived, weary and nervous, in Madrid-Barajas Airport. Everything about that first day was daunting and overwhelming. I met my IES Abroad Program Coordinators/Directors in the airport and, only minutes later, my host “father”. It was as I was being driven to what is now my home until December 21st that I had to face reality that I would be living in Spain, 32oo miles away from home, and be speaking Spanish all day, everyday.

A Passing Breeze

While in Maine this summer, my friends and I would often go swimming by the docks nearby. We’d sunbathe for a bit, to warm ourselves mostly, before plunging into the sea. The water was never quite as warm as we expected, and we’d emerge, salt and sand coating our skin and lips chattering, wanting to soak up the sweltering sun once more.
