Let the Internship Times Begin!

It’s bittersweet that my semester is ending, but I’m excited to embark on a new and continued journey in Shanghai during my IES Internship Summer program. Although the program will consist of different people, different daily routines and experiences, I don’t doubt that my time in Shanghai will be just as wonderful and exciting. I have committed to interning with a Leadership Coaching and Consulting firm called MindSpan over the summer.

Last Weeks in Shanghai

It's crazy to think that my Shanghai spring semester is almost over. It feels like just yesterday that we moved into our apartments in New Harbor. I wanted to spend my last couple of weekends in Shanghai with everyone on my program, and explore all the areas I have yet to see in Shanghai so sadly, my travels outside of Shanghai have come to an end, but I’m excited to continue checking a few things off on my travel list within Shanghai.

Surprise! I Have a Spanish Host Pet

The pet I never wanted nor expected is named Bourgos, after the part of Spain where they rescued it on the side of the road. But we call it Bourbon with a Spanish accent.

My roommate and I jumped off the bus, ran into our host mother’s arms, unlocked the front door, and the question was asked: “Do you like cats?”

I answered my host mom telling her, sure, I don't mind them.

Adjusting to Life in Milan

I’m now about two weeks into my internship abroad program in Milan. Regardless of where, being in a new country is always something that takes time to get used to. However, adjusting to the Italian lifestyle, especially in Milan is an experience on its own. First thing to know is that life in Italy is at a much slower pace than life in America. I’ve noticed this especially when eating out with friends. After our meal, we’d often sit and wait extended periods of time for our check.
