South Island Part 4: Gillespie’s Beach

When talking about the prospect of vacation, there is always this argument in my family: the mountains or the beach? Well, we found a place with both.

Gillespie’s Beach , only about an hour’s drive from Fox Glacier, was our camping destination for the night- mostly just because the campsite is free. However, we were blown away by the amazing rock beach looking out to the Tasman Sea and the magnificent mountain views behind.

In the morning we took a long hike out to where there is apparently sometimes a seal colony… however, instead of seals we were welcomed by the onset of rain… Even so, I would say it was a successful stop at Gillespie’s beach.

I love being outside, soaking in the beauties of natures, and getting to meet amazing people from around the world. I cannot wait to take a little piece of Kiwi culture back home with me.
