South Island Part 1: The Drive

Lauren Chapman
May 21, 2013

As we arrived in Picton, the beginning of our week long journey through the south island, we watched the rain clouds overwhelming us. The first night was spent camping in the rain… and the first day driving in predominantly raining weather. Even so, the views were amazing. Here is just a snap shot of part of our drive through the mountains.

At one point, we also needed to make a little rest stop, so we followed a sign off the highway to find this amazing little cove looking out to the ocean! New Zealand delivers even in the gloomiest of weather.

Chapman and I am a junior at Washington University in St. Louis studying to be a High School Math Teacher. On campus you can often find me singing with my a capella group, baking, tutoring or catching up with friends. I am a mid-western girl who loves home, but is thrilled to be on my own big adventure in New Zealand! I love being outside, soaking in the beauties of natures, and getting to meet amazing people from around the world. I cannot wait to take a little piece of Kiwi culture back home with me.
