About the Destination
Why Cape Town?
In Cape Town, every day will be like a choose-your-own-adventure book: imagine hiking Lion's Head at sunset, strolling through the African market at Greenmarket Square, attempting to finish a Gatsby sandwich, visiting beaches, and more. We want you to feel at home in South Africa, so we do everything we can to help you integrate into life in the city. From housing to cultural events, our job is to make sure you have the most authentic study abroad experience possible.

Academics
Our mission is simple: to provide you with the best study abroad program possible—which includes the highest quality academic and cultural experiences. Our Summer Sustainability & Innovation Program offers a hands-on learning experience through community-based learning engagements that help students explore the realities, needs and challenges related to urban sustainability and innovation in Cape Town.
Courses
You will enroll in two courses for a total of 6 credits.
In this program, students will also spend five sessions at the Sustainability Institute (located between Cape Town and Stellenbosch) working on community-based learning opportunities.
Since there are various ongoing projects at the institute, students will spend part of their time learning about conceptual approaches to sustainability that feature indigenous perspectives and community-centered approaches, as well as get involved with projects aimed at enhancing sustainable outcomes.
NOTE: This is a list of planned course offerings. After you are accepted, you will see a list of final course offerings in your MyIESabroad account. Additionally, IES Abroad reserves the right to cancel a course due to insufficient enrollment or circumstances beyond our control.
