Hi! My name is JoElla and I am in my final year of studying political science and economics at the University of South Dakota, though I am originally from Washington State. When not in the classroom I enjoy being active by doing yoga, hiking, and participating in intramural sports. I am even my university's two-time racquetball champion! This is just one of the reasons why I am so excited to be able to study abroad in Cape Town, South Africa. I cannot wait to hike Table Mountain, go ziplining, rappelling, bungee jumping and so much more! Not to mention all the amazing wildlife in the area, such as lions, elephants, and even penguins!!

I'm originally from San Francisco, but I've grown up traveling to Belfast, Northern Ireland my whole life to visit my huge extended family. I'm a big fan of going to concerts, crocheting, playing tennis, and doing puzzles. In my spare time I enjoy trying out new coffee shops, curating Spotify playlists, and thrifting with my friends. I'm passionate about environmental justice, specifically surrounding food insecurity and equity, and have also been vegetarian for 5 years.
