5 Things I Love About Madrid

Being in Madrid, Spain has been an incredible experience so far and I am so fortunate to be able to share my experience with all of you! Of course, no city is perfect and Madrid still has its list of things that need improvement. Nevertheless, the majority of my experience exploring the city has been incredible! Here are just a few things I love about Madrid :)

You are required to enroll in 15-19 credits per semester including one mandatory French language course. Your program offers four ways to earn academic credit: Mandatory French Language Course Offered at all IES Abroad Centers in France. Upon arriving at Nice Côte d'Azur Airport between 9:00 am -1pm. You can find the taxi stand or directions to the tramway near baggage claim - so that you can head directly to your housing. Taxis from the airport to your housing cost around ($30). A Tramway ride costs $10. You will be met at your housing by another one of our friendly staff, coordinators, or landlords to help you settle into your housing. SKEMA Business School To complement your IES Abroad courses, you will have the option of enrolling in courses at our partner university, SKEMA Business School. To be eligible for partner university courses you need a minimum 3.0 GPA. If you choose to take any courses at SKEMA, there is a two-course minimum for IES Abroad students. In addition to the mandatory virtual orientation sessions, you will attend a mandatory Orientation Day, after you arrive on-site. This orientation includes detailed information about health and safety, housing, academics, field trips, cultural activities, cultural adjustment, and other important topics. You will also meet the IES Abroad Nice staff and learn about the various resources available to IES Nice students.
Please note that internship placements for the Fall 2026 semester could be limited and/or virtual. If you require an internship as part of your semester abroad, please reach out to your IES Abroad Program Advisor as soon as possible. We do not encourage students to take SKEMA courses and apply for the internship due to commuting constraints. The day after the official arrival date you will begin your mandatory orientation. You will receive more information about specifically where and what time this orientation will take place closer to the official arrival date. During orientation, you will attend sessions about academics, housing, health and safety, and culture. You will also receive your course schedule. Following orientation, you will begin a mandatory five-day (Monday to Friday) period of intensive French language instruction which includes activities, outings, and orientation to French life.
