CHILE!

First and foremost, I am safe and all is well. (You can breathe again dad). have created my own blog because too much has happened to not document ASAP here in Santiago, Chile. I apologize for this blog entry being particularly lengthy. They wont all be this long but this is the first day so i have the most to say today. my tendency is to give too many details so I will try to be as succinct yet descriptive as possible throughout my entries.

Okinawa Highlights

The IES trip to Okinawa was four days and three nights packed with amazing activities and good food, and I could write volumes about everything we did on there. To spare you the long-winded explanation, I’ll summarize most of what we did and write more extensively on one or two things from each day.

South Island Part 6: Mt. Cook

The last major stop on our trip was to Mount Cook- New Zealand’s highest peak. We camped at Mount Cook village, woke up to the sunlight coming over the mountains, and got to see some incredible views from our morning hike.  (Make sure to click and open the panoramic shot below)

Heading back to Christchurch we were surrounded by mountains the majority of the way. We made a stop at Mt. John observatory, where the views looked like something from another planet. Honestly, I could not get enough of those beautiful mountains.

Packing & Nerves

At first, my empty suitcase seemed so roomy as I prepared to pack for my one month excursion to Salamanca, Spain. Armed with an amorphous list, I started the process. Quite quickly, the space began to diminish! I started the battle, blue dress with the ruffles vs. the blue and white striped one (for any interested parties, the blue ruffled one won). After almost two days of packing, I finially fit everything I think I needed under the weight requirment (according to my mom 45lbs.

Almost 30s.

Sometimes, I use a real camera! Here in Buenos Aires, I live in a dorm with students from all over Argentina, Spain and Latin America.A friend from Venezuela, Roma, studies fashion production here in Buenos Aires and got me on board with her to create this collection. Roma styled and directed this shoot for one of her courses. The idea was a modernized take on the 30′s. Her friends from school stepped in as the model and did the make up and another girl from the dorm helped us out with test shots.

It’s been a month since I left Ecuador, and my transition back to this coastal Maine town has been remarkably easy.  The semester abroad was the farthest physical and cultural step I’ve taken away from home, and so it was a very reflective time, four months to look at everything I’ve ever known from a far-away perspective.  Now home with that fresh perspective, I look at my friends and family with a new appreciation for everything I’ve always loved about them.  Rather than resenting them for not understanding the world I’ve been livin
