What I'm Learning in Rome
We can’t forget the ‘study’ part of ‘study abroad!’
Holiday Availability: All IES Abroad offices will be closed on Dec 24, Dec 25, Dec 31, and Jan 1 as we take some time to celebrate. During the weeks of 12/22 and 12/29, our team will be smaller, so responses may take longer than usual. Thanks for your understanding—and happy holidays!

Granada is a city that attracts a special kind of people. People here are looking to become immersed in culture, language, food, art, and so much more that this wonderful city has to offer. If you’ve been following my time here, then you’ve heard a little about what I’ve been doing. I figured the way to best paint this study abroad experience in full, however, is via the people who are living it with me. I interviewed five students about their time in Granada so far. Here is what they had to say.
In an unknown world of transportation, food, language, and places, it is helpful to have a few apps and websites to guide you along the way. Before I left, I downloaded a plethora of apps, some unused and others which enhanced my experience. Here is a list of the apps and websites I actually used to organize, discover, and understand during my time abroad.
Travel:
Kia Ora!! As midterms are coming around, I have been studying a lot at the University of Canterbury. Although there is not much of a culture shock when going to New Zealand, classes are slightly different than the way in which classes work in the U.S. One of the biggest differences, which I find very helpful, is that almost all of the classes here at UC are recorded. This is very benefical for us exchange students, because it allows us to travel around New Zealand without having to miss out on your classes or get behind.
I met a lot of really great people through my study abroad program. Study abroad programs attract like-minded adventurous individuals who enjoy getting out of their comfort zone and experiencing new cultures, food, and chaos. It is very easy to find people in the program to travel with on weekend excursions. I planned a weekend trip to Prague with five other students. One of the best decisions I have made for studying abroad is downloading Venmo.
IES Abroad students had the opportunity to sign up for an optional trip to Dresden, Germany. Under a three-hour train ride away from Berlin, seventeen other students and I got to experience the new sites and food Dresden had to offer. IES Abroad purchased everyone a pass that gave us access to all the museums which we took full advantage of. Come along on my journey through Dresden!
Hi everyone!! I have been in New Zealand for a little over a month now, and it already feels like home here in Christchurch! I decided to post photos of things to do around the city for those potentially studying here or planning a trip in the near future. Christchurch is one of the biggest cities in New Zealand and the biggest on the south island, meaning there is plenty to do and see while here. Below are a bunch of my favorite pictures and places you can easily get to from university.
After two and a half months of being abroad, I've already seen more of the world than I did during my prior 21 years. Below I've created a photo journal of my travels so far.
Bologna was by far one of the most recommended places for me to visit. Not to mention, I had an Italian professor in high school who was from Bologna and she didn’t have enough great things to say about the city. I was beyond excited to go! I took an hour-long train ride from Milano Centrale to Bologna Centrale. I headed straight for the towers, as they were what I had heard and learned the most about. The streets were filled with people. There were so many artists, street performers, and visitors.
