My Favorite Winter Drink Spots in Wien

Since I’ve been in Vienna, I’ve made it kind of a mission to find the best spots for coffees and hot chocolates. There are so many cafés and chocolate shops in the city, but two of my favorites right now are L’Amour Du Pain and The Lindt Chocolate Store.

L’Amour Du Pain-

I love this café because it’s cozy and their cappuccinos are some of the best I’ve ever had. I usually grab a cappuccino and a pain au chocolat while I study or just hang out with friends. It’s the kind of place where you can sit for a while without feeling rushed, which is perfect when you have a lot of assignments or just need a break in between classes. Also, their pain au chocolat is the best pastry I’ve ever had, the dough is warm and flaky and the chocolate inside is always gooey and rich.

The mood of the cafe is relaxed and calming, but there’s still enough energy that it doesn’t feel empty. I’ve spent hours there with friends, either to grab a quick snack in between classes or a shopping break since it is located in Mariahilferstraße neighborhood. The staff is friendly, and they even give me the opportunity to practice my German! Pro tip: they do offer their coffees to-go, but I always recommend drinking it there, it is much tastier and you get to fully experience the ambiance of the cafe.

Lindt Chocolate Shop-

This one is more of a dessert spot. I am a huge hot chocolate fan and have made it my goal to try hot chocolates from around the world. This Lindt spot has the richest, creamiest, and most delectable hot chocolate I have ever had in my life. I love stopping here after walking around the city, especially on colder days. Sometimes I get the classic hot chocolate, sometimes I add flavors such as hazelnut or salted caramel.

One of my favorite things about Lindt is the little chocolate samples they give along with the purchase. The staff is very kind and it is super fun to watch them collect the chocolate from a flowing fountain. The only drawback is that there really isn’t a place to sit down, but this is one of those drinks that is perfect to walk around the first district and look at Christmas lights with.

Both of these places are favorites of mine and they make Vienna feel more like home. One is perfect for studying or relaxing, the other is for when I want to treat myself. Part of the fun of studying abroad is finding little spots like these that romanticize everyday life. If you’re ever in Vienna, I’d recommend checking both of them out! Whether you’re looking for a quiet café to study in or just want a sweet drink to enjoy while exploring the city, these two spots are definitely worth a visit.
