About the Program
Length: June - three weeks
We invite you to consider our IES Abroad Amsterdam Center as a site for welcoming your cohort for a Sustainability and Urban Design program. Courses and co-curricular activities are meant to maximize the location while expanding students’ perspectives more broadly to apply their experience in a globalized society. This program is meant to appeal to second-, third-, and fourth-year students who are interested in studying Urban Planning, Urban Design, and/or Civil Engineering in a smaller European city. This program touches on models of urbanism that can house, educate, and employ a growing share of the world’s people, and meet their needs for breathable air, drinkable water, healthy food, as well as safety, community, and opportunity. Amsterdam is also a test bed for design thinking and experimentation in food production, building on the Netherlands’ highly intensive, and high-tech, agricultural model. Exhibitions, walking tours, and guest speakers would be part of this short course taught by School or IES Abroad faculty.
PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee the availability of all housing, excursions, cultural events, guest lecturers or tours.
