About the Program
Length: Three to four weeks
We invite you to consider our Freiburg Center as a site for welcoming your cohort. This highly immersive and innovative summer program focuses on the relevant themes of ecosystem management, sustainability, natural environment and human impact on ecosystems. The program is meant to appeal to Environmental and Sustainability Studies majors and to students of any major interested in sustainability, biology, and environmental studies & sciences through field study components in the surrounding environment of Freiburg, high-caliber site visits in sustainability institutions, and guest lectures with researchers from the local university and research institutions. The program should be especially appealing to second-semester sophomores, rising juniors, or to students wanting to internationalize their resumes without committing to an internship or a full semester of study abroad.
PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee the availability of all housing, excursions, cultural events, guest lecturers or tours.
Academics
Academic Program includes:
- One Faculty Director course (content TBD by the University, not transcripted through IES Abroad Registrar)
AND/OR - ES/BL 306 - Ecosystem Management: Social, Ecological, and Economical Aspects of Sustainability - 3 credits taught by IES Abroad-sourced faculty
OR - ES 310 - Change of Ecosystems as a Result of Long-Term Human Activities in Southwest Germany & the Swiss Alps – taught by IES Abroad-sourced faculty
