Practical experience in the workplace is an invaluable addition to classroom learning. An internship provides vital insights into a career field, experience in the global workplace, practical exposure to the demands of specific jobs, and development of professional and personal skills. As well as developing your resume, an internship will give you the opportunity to directly experience the many cultures and people who make up Spain. Participating in the IES Internships Program offers you a unique opportunity to step outside your educational environment and experience Spaniards at work. Please...

Packing Tips Check out these packing tips from former IES Abroad students. Barcelona enjoys a moderate Mediterranean climate, with hot summers and a lot of sunshine. High temperatures average 85ºF in June. When packing clothes, remember to bring layers as temperatures can vary considerably between morning, midday, and evening. It is a good idea to bring slippers, as most homes have bare floors, and it is considered rude to walk around barefoot. You should bring at least one formal outfit for special occasions. If you plan to participate in an internship, you must bring professional attire...
Plan to arrive at the Barcelona El Prat Airport (BCN) between 8am and 4pm on the official arrival date. IES Abroad staff will leave the airport at 5pm, so please arrive in Barcelona no later than 4pm to allow time to go through customs/immigration, retrieve luggage, and meet IES Abroad Barcelona staff at airport arrivals. Your plane most likely will arrive at Terminal 1. After collecting your luggage, follow the “Arrivals” signs to exit the Baggage Claim area. Outside, you should proceed through to find IES Abroad staff members there to greet you on the right side exit path just after the...
