Holiday Availability: All IES Abroad offices will be closed on Dec 24, Dec 25, Dec 31, and Jan 1 as we take some time to celebrate. During the weeks of 12/22 and 12/29, our team will be smaller, so responses may take longer than usual. Thanks for your understanding—and happy holidays!

Code of Student Responsibility The IES Abroad Code of Student Responsibility is based on the premise that our students are guests abroad. IES Abroad students are expected to abide by the customs of the country in which they are studying and are legally subject to the same laws that govern local students. Students who participate in IES Abroad programs are representatives of IES Abroad at all times for the duration of their enrollment. Any student who violates any policy outlined in the Code will be subject to administrative review and possible sanctions up to and including dismissal from the...

All IES Abroad Centers are equipped with a Wi-Fi connection. You may connect your laptop, cell phone, and other WiFi-enabled devices during office hours. To access internet outside of IES Abroad Center hours, you may choose to visit local cafes where internet access is available, university libraries (depending on your enrollment), your housing accommodation, and other WiFi hotspots throughout the city. Be sure to check with your cellular provider to ensure that you may access the Internet on your phone when connected to WiFi without incurring mobile data costs. You'll probably want to set...
Before you depart, you will participate in a mandatory virtual orientation program which is designed to prepare you for your time abroad. The virtual orientation course consists of videos for you to watch in your own time as well as two live sessions. Topics for the virtual orientation program include a Center overview, what to know before you go, and what to expect upon arrival. The virtual orientation course also includes a Student Forum where you are able to introduce yourself and get to know your fellow classmates. It's a good space to learn about others on the program, whether anyone else...
Shipping & Storing Luggage Because there is a customs fee that needs to be paid upon arrival, our Center cannot accept any shipped luggage. To avoid your things getting stuck in a shipping snafu, don’t ship anything to the Center ahead of time! Similarly, the IES Abroad Center is not available to store luggage before, during, or after your program. To ensure your items are kept safe, we recommend finding alternative options in your local city.
Late Arrival Late arrivals are not permitted unless warranted by a documented medical or family emergency and approved by IES Abroad. If your flights are delayed or canceled before you arrive in your host country, use the information provided in the Print Me document (emailed 2-3 weeks before your program begins) to contact us. Our staff will communicate the details of your delayed arrival to the on site Center staff.
Early Arrival You may not move into your IES Abroad housing early. If you arrive before the official arrival date, you are responsible for your accommodations until the first day of the program. This also means that you cannot come to the IES Abroad Center with luggage, as there is no storage space. For hostel recommendations, we encourage you visit one of the many search engines online such as Hostelworld or TripAdvisor. If you're arriving early, make sure you share your accommodation arrangements with us by adding them to your Travel Itinerary Form when it becomes available in your...
Wait to Make Independent Travel Plans As soon as a preliminary program calendar is available (typically 6-8 weeks before the program starts), it will appear below. However, this calendar is subject to change. Please do not make independent travel arrangements (including visits from family or friends) before you arrive on-site, receive any calendar updates from the IES Abroad Center staff during orientation, and finalize your course registration. Remember that you will not be excused from academic obligations, including final exams or required IES Abroad events, in order to travel independently...
