Parents Week!

Picking up my parents from an airport to come and visit me is something I never imagined I would be doing during my time at college; however, they decided to come and visit me for a week and so I ended up heading to the airport for their arrival. My parents are very loving and kind people and spending time with them adventuring is always a memorable experience, therefore I saved the majority of my plans to travel and explore Ireland with them.

Visiting Barcelona's Street Art Scene

Barcelona’s reputation as a cultural hub isn’t limited to its architectural wonders and culinary delights. The city is also a canvas for vibrant street art, particularly graffiti, which has evolved into a central part of its identity. On a recent trip with a friend, I had the opportunity to dive deeper into this creative subculture. One of the highlights was visiting a graffiti supply store, where I gained a better understanding of the tools, techniques, and history behind this urban art form.

I Taught English in Vienna—Here’s How it Went

“Do you want to break out of the bubble and truly see Vienna?” Asked Heidi Roessler, Education Studies teacher, during orientation. My immediate thought: Of course! That’s how I ended up enrolled in EDU 395-01, The Supervised Teaching Field Experience. This is a course that allows IES Abroad students to intern at local schools for four hours a week and try their hand at teaching.

Exploring Toulouse: A day in the "Pink City"

Toulouse, affectionately known as the "Pink City" for its terracotta brick architecture, is a vibrant mix of history, culture, and youthful energy. I recently visited my friend Ines, who’s originally from Montpellier but studies here, like many students who flock to Toulouse for its universities and lively atmosphere. Spending the day exploring with her offered a fantastic glimpse into why this city is beloved by locals, students, and visitors alike.

Hosting Visitors in Freiburg

After living for a few months in Freiburg, I finally felt prepared to host friends and family and give them an excellent tour of the city from a resident’s perspective. However, I didn’t account for the different logistical pieces like purchasing daily tram tickets or eating dinner. Now, having had two different groups of family members visit me and two different friends, I feel prepared to present my recommendations.

Our Centers use this information to prepare for student arrival and the upcoming semester, so failure to receive student information in a timely manner can cause delays in critical processes and significant financial repercussions for IES Abroad and our Centers. Housing-related forms in particular are extremely important for students to submit by the listed deadline. Our Centers often need this information earlier in the...
